Evaluation question 4
In my opinion, our film is aimed at teenagers and young adults of both genders, with a more specific target audience of students. The reason for this being that the characters within our film are mainly students and we ourselves are students which makes it easier to know what they are interested in watching. The target audience would also have an interest in films consisting of the genre 'horror' and the sub genre 'zombies'. After looking at various certification websites, we decided to certify our film as a 15 due to the inclusion of zombies, weapons, violence and strong language. We decided that these features would make it unsuitable for people under the age of 15. As I stated above, our film is aimed at both males and females even though our film consists of mainly male actors. We have also aimed our film at all races in order to avoid any discrimination and to make sure we could attract a wider audience as possible. Due to our film being more independent based, we are aiming it at a more working/middle classed audience as higher class people tend to watch more mainstream films. Despite this, I fully expect our film to not have a niche audience as other films with the same genre have attracted large audiences.
To make our film as successful as possible, we created a questionaire for people to fill in. This questionaire allowed us to identify any improvements we could make to our film and to see how we could make it more suitable for our target audience. Some questions were as follows: What do you like/dislike? What genre do you think the film is? Would you and where would you watch this film? Are there any improvements you would make, after reading our story-line?

The results showed that only 5 out of 10 people stated the genre of the film correctly and that we needed some music that would help portray the genre better. The results also showed that most people liked and wouldn't change our storyline. The people who did say they would change it, only stated a few things they would change which was a major positive for us. We also got a positive outcome from the fact that the results showed that people would view our film in many different ways. With 6 people saying they would watch it at the cinema, 2 people saying they would watch it on netflix and the other 2 people saying they would just wait for it to come on the TV.

Question 4
Our film is aimed at teenagers and young adults as being of that age ourselves we know what this age group want. Mainly male as the film contains violence and this is normally favoured by the male gender, however we purposely made the majority of the characters in the film male as this could appeal to people from the female gender as they could be attaracted to one of the characters. From this we then decided that our audience would have in intrest in films of the horror genre and then sub genre zombies. From research we also found that a large proportion of the people that like these films are actually part of the video gaming community, meaning they play video games. This fact could actually aid us in an advertising campaign being able to target the correct audience easily by advertising before a youtube video showing a video game for example. During the research phase we also looked into certificates for films, we believe that our film should be certified as 15 due to it containing violence and strong language. This gave us base to work up from we could now have 15 as a minimum age for our target audience. If we decided to go with a independant distribution company like warp films we would also have to alter some aspects in order to target it more at people from the sheffield/ south yorkshire area. This could also make our target audience more working to middle class.
We then created a questionaire to ensure that our film was suitable to the target audience (shown below)
These are the results.
We advertised our questionaire with our storyline visible on a social networking site. The fact that 80% of the people that clicked on and answered the questionaire were infact of the age group that we wanted makes the results very valid. All of the participants said that they liked the storyline meaning that it is the correct audience.
Question 5
How did you attract/address your audience?
I believe that we reached our target audience very well. After asking 10 people in our target group we found that 90% would go and watch the film after seeing the first two minutes. After they had watched it we also asked them what they liked and what they didnt here are few examples of what they said.
The majority that were asked said they "loved the 4 shot news report". I believe this is something you dont see very often and it therefore stands out to the audience. It also makes them feel more involved as it gives the impression that the appocalypse is worldwide and could involve them. I also believe that the audiece appreciated the editing skill put into this.
Another thing the group liked was the non-linear sequence of shots, the fact that the first minute or so was a dream was unexpected and therefore gives the audience that shock factor. During planning this was the effect that we wanted to get from this.
One thing we found that the audience didnt like was the typography at the end, they said that it looks "tacky" and "doesnt fit in". To improve this I believe a better font could have been found and a better colour chosen both to help connote blood.
Here is a font I have found:

Question 7
Our preliminary exercise was continuity task involving the filming and editing of a character opening a door, walking in, sitting down and engaging in conversation with another character. Within this we had to include match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180 degree rule. Completing this task gave us a lot of initial skills, it allowed us to use the camera for the first time and get used to it, it allowed us to learn new basic skills on final cut and of course to begin to using blogger.
We then took these skills forward into the main task which was to create the titles and opening sequence of a new fiction film to last a maximum of 2 minutes. The experience we gained on the preliminary exercise definitely made it a lot easier than originally thought. It made sticking to the 180 degree rule a lot easier and we also included a match on action while opening a door in our final film. After the filming process we then once again used final cut to put it all together, after picking up the basics in the preliminary task we now had confidence to use more complicated techniques like adding transitions or even flashes. This helped our two minutes flow and made it what it is now. Blogger was also very easy to pick up and I know find no trouble using it.
All in all i have thoroughly enjoyed this experience and believe that i have learnt a great deal about many technologies that I had not used before.
